The idea distilled.
Australia currently ranks in the bottom third for education equity among OECD countries and below global averages in Maths, Science, and Reading. The sector is under pressure and parents are only giving it a C+; this study investigates ways to enhance the education system by exploring the perspectives of parents, students, and teachers, addressing issues like teacher retention and burnout, across all educational stages from Early Years to University.
If nothing else, three things to fuel your growth.
- The majority of parents think that the education system is performing below average, with 20% of parents students and staff thinking it needs considerable improvement.
- Three key areas were identified to improve educational outcomes
- elevate the profession to keep and increase the quality of teaching
- improve resourcing
- addressing the equity in funding, modernising teaching through technology
- real-life readiness
- 44% of teachers are currently considering leaving the profession, and the biggest driver of this attrition is burnout, with 88% of teachers feeling this is driving them to leave.
Some additional food for thought…
- Funding is not seen as being equitable, with 44% of parents thinking it favours private schools, versus only 32% who think it’s equitable.
- 50% of students are concerned they are not getting the education needed for the jobs of the future.
